Overview
The armored floating hose combines the two things a long overwater line usually has to choose between: integral buoyancy and an armored lining. It is installed on the main discharge pipeline of a dredger for overwater slurry runs, built from an inner lining, reinforcement layer, buoyant interlayer, outer cover and carbon steel flanges, and carries mixed media such as water, silt, clay and sand while staying on the surface empty or loaded.
Who it is for
Contractors running long overwater discharge lines in abrasive material who are replacing floating sections more often than the rest of the line.
Key benefits
- Buoyant interlayer keeps the hose afloat empty or in working condition
- Highly wear-resistant natural rubber for demanding dredging conditions
- Inner high-strength steel rings absorb pump vibration and pulsating pressure
- High pressure resistance combined with flexibility and tensile strength
- Stable floating performance maintained throughout operation
What goes wrong without it
An abrasive overwater line either wears out fast or needs pontoon support; integral buoyancy plus a hard-wearing lining avoids picking one problem over the other.
Recovering and re-floating a sunken empty line at every shift change is lost production.
Pump pulsation across a long floating line fatigues the flange joints. The inner high-strength steel rings absorb it before it reaches them.
Construction and technical features
- Construction: inner lining, reinforcement layer, buoyant interlayer, outer cover layer
- Carbon steel flanges at both ends
- Abrasion resistance, vibration absorption and aging resistance
- Flexible body with flanged ends for easy handling during operation
- Carries water, silt, clay and sand mixtures
Quality control
- Raw material test on every batch of natural rubber, tensile textile and rubber additives before it enters the warehouse
- Hose dimension check on inner diameter, outer diameter, wall thickness and flange alignment against the design drawing
- Weight check on every hose to confirm it falls inside the agreed tolerance band
- Hydrostatic or vacuum pressure test to the specified working pressure when the order calls for it
- Third-party inspection can be arranged on request
Where it is used
- Overwater main discharge line on a dredger working coarse material
- Long floating runs where section replacement at sea is expensive
- Port deepening works where the spoil is more abrasive than clean sand
- Reclamation lines that stay in the water across multiple project phases
Customisation
- Inner diameter 200-1100 mm in 5800 or 11800 mm lengths
- Working pressure within the 0.5-4.2 MPa band
- Flange drilling to your existing line standard
- Customer branding and section identification in the marking
How it compares
Against the standard floating rubber hose, the armored version is specified when the conveyed material is wearing the lining faster than the buoyant structure is ageing. Against the armored discharge hose, this one floats by itself and needs no PE floats or pontoons on the overwater run.
Selection and use notes
- Specify the dredged material and particle size, not only the diameter, when requesting a quotation
- Protect the outer cover during lifting, since the buoyant interlayer sits behind it
- Keep the line within its rated bend radius when repositioning
- Rotate sections through the line so wear is distributed
Questions buyers ask
How is this different from the standard floating rubber hose?
Both use the same buoyant interlayer construction and the same dimensional and pressure ratings. The armored version is built for more abrasive service.
Does it float when empty?
Yes. The buoyant interlayer keeps it afloat in both empty and working condition.
What are the available sizes?
Inner diameter 200-1100 mm, section length 5800 mm or 11800 mm.
What pressure is it rated to?
0.5-4.2 MPa working pressure and 1.5-12.6 MPa burst pressure.
What does it connect to?
It connects with CSD and TSHD dredgers to transport mud, sand, water and other mixed media.
Can inspection be witnessed by a third party?
Yes. A third-party inspection agency can be invited according to your requirements.
