Mining and Tailings Transport
Moving abrasive slurry and tailings where the duty is closer to mining than to dredging.
What this work asks of a pipeline
Tailings and mine slurry ask the same question as dredging spoil but usually with a harsher answer: finer abrasives, longer continuous running, and lines that are not easy to get at once they are laid. The construction that survives it is the one built for angular material rather than for clean sand.
What tends to go wrong
Continuous abrasive flow wears a standard lining through at a predictable but inconveniently short interval.
Heavy project loads and mixed materials stress joints that were specified only on bore size.
Access for section replacement is often worse than on a marine line, so early failure costs more.
What we specify instead
- Armored construction with embedded wear-resistant steel rings for the abrasive positions.
- Sandwich-flanged discharge hose handling project loads and materials of up to 16 tons.
- Wear warning layers so sections are changed on a schedule rather than on a failure.
