Port and Channel Construction
Capital works in coarse and rock material, where armored construction decides the replacement interval.
What this work asks of a pipeline
Port deepening and new channel works usually mean cutting material that was never meant to be pumped: weathered rock, coral reef, coarse gravel with angular grains. A conventional lining does not survive a campaign in that, and the cost shows up as section replacements rather than as a line item in the tender.
What tends to go wrong
Angular high-hardness particles cut a standard lining open well before the rest of the line is worn.
Sections mounted on the cutter ladder have to bend and resist abrasion at the same time.
Bare steel flange faces erode from the inside where the slurry passes the joint.
What we specify instead
- Armored discharge hose with HB 450+ wear-resistant steel rings embedded in the NR/SBR lining.
- Sandwich flanges where the joint face itself is a known wear point.
- Steel pipe with increased wall thickness or internal wear-resistant lining for the fixed high-wear positions.
