Product Overview

The GKW and GWF series is a full aluminium wall type axial ventilator designed specifically for the drying kiln. High temperature and high humidity are the defining conditions, and the fan is built around them: resistant to high temperature, resistant to high humidity, large air volume, high efficiency, energy saving and convenient installation.

It is used in the ventilation system of wood drying kilns and other drying equipment. The applied conditions are a maximum ambient temperature of 130 C and a maximum relative humidity of 98 percent, in an acid-deficient or mildly alkaline steam environment without combustible gas, and the motor can also be used in vacuum drying equipment depending on the specific conditions.

Eight standard diameters are offered, from 400 mm to 1000 mm, and the fan runs continuously in both directions, which is how a timber kiln equalises drying across the stack.

Key Benefits

What This Product Changes

1

Reversible duty as standard

Continuous S1 operation with periodic running in positive and opposite directions. Reversing the airflow on a cycle is what stops one face of the timber stack drying faster than the other.

2

All aluminium in a steam environment

Aluminium alloy frame, aluminium alloy impeller and an aluminium alloy motor shell, with stainless steel and copper fasteners. Steel that is merely painted does not survive a kiln.

3

Installation that does not fight the kiln wall

The wall type format and the fan blades connecting directly to the motor keep the installation short and the maintenance access simple.

4

Speed matched to the kiln, not to a catalogue

2900 r/min, 1450 r/min and 960 r/min, with the blade angle adjusted to the client requirement and arc or right-angle blades available.

Problems It Solves

The Situations That Lead People Here

1

Motors fail in the middle of a drying cycle

H class 180 C insulation with all-copper windings and modified polyester imide enamelled wire is the specific answer. A failure mid-cycle costs the whole charge, not just the fan.

2

Timber dries unevenly across the stack

Reversible running and large air volume even out the moisture gradient through the pile instead of drying the windward face first.

3

Bearings seize in high humidity

The motor uses an external structure injected with lubricating oil and high-temperature grease imported from Japan, which extends bearing life and avoids dismantling for lubrication.

4

Vibration cracks kiln wall fixings

Straight shaft extension and subulate shaft extension with high-temperature bearing grease keep noise and vibration low at the wall penetration.

Technical Features

How It Is Built

1

Full aluminium wall type construction

Aluminium alloy fan frame and impeller with an aluminium alloy motor shell, giving a structure that survives continuous steam exposure.

2

H class 180 C high-temperature motor

100 percent copper motor with H class insulation using modified polyester imide enamelled wire, designed by advanced thermodynamic analysis to lower electromagnetic loading while raising efficiency.

3

Direct blade to motor connection

The fan blades can connect directly to the motor, removing a coupling from the assembly and from the maintenance list.

4

Three rotational speeds

2900 r/min, 1450 r/min and 960 r/min, chosen so the circumferential velocity of the impeller stays within condition.

5

Four to eight aluminium alloy blades

Rust-resistant blades in arc or right-angle profile so the duty can be matched without changing the housing.

6

Externally lubricated bearings

External lubricating oil structure with Japanese high-temperature grease, inspected strictly before shipment.

Comparison

How It Compares

Choosing between the GKW GWF and the other high-temperature options.

Against the GKF GKT drying fanThe GKF GKT covers eleven diameters and four mounting types across paint, tobacco, rubber and pharmaceutical drying. The GKW GWF is the full aluminium wall type built specifically around the timber kiln.
Against the CRF diagonal grain drying fanThe CRF is for grain dryers, where the pre-rotation vane and meridian acceleration design give the pressure and volume that a grain column needs. For timber, the wall type kiln fan is the right format.
Against a general-purpose axial fanGeneral-purpose fans are not rated for 130 C at 98 percent humidity and do not use an all-aluminium structure. In a kiln they are a consumable.
Against upgrading only the motorRefitting an H class motor into a steel housing leaves the housing, fasteners and impeller to corrode. The all-aluminium construction is part of the answer, not an extra.
Use Guide

Getting It Right on Site

1

Set the reversing cycle to the schedule

The fan is rated for periodic running in both directions. Tie the reversal to the kiln schedule rather than leaving it in one direction for the whole charge.

2

Confirm the wall opening before ordering

Wall type fans need the opening and the fixing pattern to match. Send the existing opening dimensions and the fan is selected to fit rather than the wall being cut again.

3

Watch the condition limits, not just the temperature

130 C and 98 percent humidity are the boundary, and combustible gas is outside the rating entirely. A kiln that may accumulate flammable vapour needs the CBF explosion-proof range.

4

Inspect after each maintenance shutdown

Check the fixing bolts, end cover screws and the junction box terminals for looseness or burn marks while the kiln is cold and accessible.

Questions

Questions About the GKW GWF Wood Drying Fan

Because air dries the face it hits first. Running the fan in positive and opposite directions on a periodic cycle evens out the moisture gradient through the stack, which is why the S1 duty with periodic reversal is written into the specification.

The applied conditions. Maximum ambient 130 C, maximum relative humidity 98 percent, an all-aluminium frame, impeller and motor shell, stainless and copper fasteners, and an H class 180 C all-copper motor. A standard fan meets none of that.

It follows the air volume required through the timber stack and the wall opening available, in eight sizes between 400 mm and 1000 mm. Send the kiln internal dimensions, the stack size and the number of fan positions and we will select.

The motor can also be used in vacuum drying equipment according to the specific conditions. Tell us the process and we will confirm before the order is placed.

The motor uses an external structure injected with lubricating oil, with high-temperature grease imported from Japan. The point of that design is that the bearing does not have to be dismantled for oiling.

HS 8414599099, the same code as the rest of the axial fan range, which makes a mixed shipment of kiln fans straightforward to declare.
