Product Overview
Steel remains the default choice where strength and cost matter more than weight or corrosion resistance. Our catalog covers alloy steels such as SCM 415, SCM 435 and SCM 440, carbon steels S15C, S40C, S45C and S50C, bearing steel SUJ2, and the free machining grades 12L14 and 1215 that cut faster and cost less per piece.
The grade decision is usually a trade between three things: strength after heat treatment, machinability, and price. A free machining grade halves the cycle time on a simple turned part, but it will not carry the load an alloy steel will. Tell us what the part has to do and our engineers will name the grade rather than leaving the choice to you.
Key Benefits
Strength and Toughness
Alloy grades respond to heat treatment and carry loads that aluminum or plastics cannot.
Cost Effective
Steel is the least expensive of the structural metals we machine, per kilogram and per part.
Free Machining Options
12L14 and 1215 cut fast and hold a good finish, which keeps turned part prices down.
Finished For Service
Powder coating, electroplating and other treatments protect steel parts in corrosive environments.
Applications and Who It Is For
- Shafts, pins and spindles
- Gears and transmission components
- Machinery and equipment parts
- Fasteners and threaded components
- Automotive and truck components
- Mounting brackets and structural parts
If your application is not on this list, send the drawing anyway. A good part of our work arrives as something another shop declined to quote.

Manufacturing Process and Quality Control
Drawing Review
Our engineers review manufacturability, confirm tolerances and raise anything in the drawing that would cause a problem before production starts.
Free Sample
Free samples are available before mass production, with first piece inspection recorded against your drawing.
Production Control
In-process inspection at a set frequency during the run, using the coordinate measuring machine and gauges in our inspection room.
Surface Treatment
Anodizing, sand blasting, polishing, electroplating and powder coating applied in house after deburring and cleaning.
Final Inspection
The finished lot is checked against the drawing before packing, with certification issued for the stages you require.
Packing and Delivery
Protective packing appropriate to the part, dispatched within the agreed delivery date.
Customization Options
- Material — specify a grade from our catalog, or describe the function and our engineers will recommend one.
- Tolerance — standard machining tolerance is 0.005 to 0.01 mm; tighter callouts are discussed at quotation.
- Surface finish — anodized, sand blasted, polished, electroplated, powder coated or as machined.
- Marking — CNC engraving and laser engraving for part numbers and logos.
- Quantity — from a single prototype through to long production contracts.
- Certification — certification provided at every stage on request.

Product FAQ
Which steel grade for a shaft?
S45C is the common general purpose choice. Where the shaft is highly stressed, an alloy grade such as SCM 435 or SCM 440 with heat treatment is the better route.
Do you heat treat steel parts?
Heat treatment can be arranged as part of the process route, and hardness is verified with a micro-hardness tester before the parts ship.
How do you protect steel parts from rust?
Electroplating, powder coating and nitriding are the usual routes. Tell us the working environment and we will recommend one rather than defaulting to the cheapest.
How do I order this part?
Do you offer free samples?
Yes, free samples are available before mass production so you can confirm the part before committing to a run.
