How It Compares With the Alternatives
Against a self-adhesive direct thermal label, a till roll is a plain thermal paper with no adhesive or liner, so it is far cheaper per metre and cannot be applied to anything. Against a bond paper roll for an impact printer, thermal needs no ink or ribbon and prints silently, but the image is heat-sensitive and should not be stored against a hot surface.

Getting It Right on the First Roll
Load with the coated side facing the print head; the coated side marks when scratched with a fingernail.
Match the core type to the printer: plastic, cardboard or coreless, in 57 mm or 80 mm width.
Store rolls away from heat, direct sunlight, solvents and PVC materials, all of which age the image.
For archive copies, photocopy or scan the receipt rather than relying on the thermal image beyond its stated life.

Any size, and square, rectangle, round or oval dies. Ribbons are slit from 30 mm to 110 mm and 30 m to 900 m.
