Grade tells you what the material is. Temper tells you how it will behave in your press. Yongxin sets temper through annealing and temper rolling and then proves it in the laboratory before the coil is released.

Why This Matters

The Problem Behind the Specification

Two coils of the same grade can behave completely differently in a forming operation if their temper is different. Ultra thin stainless steel strip is supplied across ANN, 1/4H, 1/2H, 3/4H, FH and EH, which covers everything from deep forming to spring behaviour without changing the grade and therefore without changing corrosion behaviour.

You can specify the temper directly, or you can specify the mechanical properties you need. Yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and hardness can all be stated in the enquiry, and where hardness is written in an unfamiliar scale the hardness conversion table lets both sides work from the same value.

Annealing is done in house in a horizontal continuous annealing furnace and bell type annealing furnaces. Temper rolling and stretch bending levelling follow. Because none of these steps is subcontracted, a temper adjustment after a sample trial does not mean requalifying a different supplier.

How This Is Handled From Design to After Sales

  1. Design and Enquiry

    State the temper, or state the yield, tensile, elongation and hardness values you need.

  2. Material Selection

    Grade and temper are chosen together against the forming operation described.

  3. Sampling

    A sample is annealed, temper rolled and sent for your approval.

  4. Annealing

    Continuous or bell type annealing sets the grain structure and base softness.

  5. Temper Rolling and Levelling

    Temper rolling sets hardness, the leveller sets flatness.

  6. Inspection

    Tensile testing machine and hardness tester verify the properties, and the results go on the mill test certificate.

  7. Packing

    Coils are packed so the strip is not deformed, since handling damage can look like a property problem.

  8. After Sales

    If parts crack or spring back differently in production, send the failed sample and press parameters so we can review temper and elongation with you.

Should I specify temper or mechanical properties
Either works. If your drawing already names a temper, use it. If your requirement is really about how the part forms, give the mechanical values and let us select the temper.
Which temper is softest and which is hardest
ANN is fully annealed and softest. 1/4H, 1/2H and 3/4H are progressively harder, FH is full hard and EH is extra hard.
My drawing quotes hardness in a scale you did not mention
Use the hardness conversion table in the knowledge center to convert between Brinell, Rockwell A B and C, Vickers and Shore, then state the value and the scale in your enquiry.
Can temper be adjusted after a failed forming trial
Yes. That is what the sample approval loop is for. Send the trial result and we will adjust annealing or temper rolling and produce a new sample.
