The ratings in the Boray range
IP20 with forced-air cooling is the standard for cabinet-mounted drives such as BR100 and the base BR600-P. IP54 covers the pump drives — FS200, FS300, BR300 — where humidity, dust and oil mist are present. IP65 is available on FD500 for mounting directly at the motor, and as an option (IP54/IP55/IP65) on BR600-P.
Why the enclosure is not the whole answer
Sealing a drive tightly traps its own heat. The BR100 approach is different: a completely independent ventilation channel, with no vent holes on the upper chamber side or top surface, so pollutants cannot reach the electronic components area while heat still leaves through the duct. High-loss devices and the bus electrolytic capacitors sit in the cooled path.
When coating matters more than sealing
In chemical, petroleum, coastal and aquaculture plants, the attack is chemical rather than particulate. FD600 uses a split-type sealed design with professional-grade conformal coating on the boards, giving resistance to oxidation, salt spray and mould. An IP65 enclosure without coated boards will still corrode internally if the atmosphere gets in during service.
Outdoor installations need more than an IP number
SD300 adds upgraded lightning protection and a long-life design for outdoor pump sets, with lower-end wiring so water does not track into the gland plate. Surge protection, not ingress protection, is what usually kills an outdoor drive.
Derating still applies
Altitude and temperature limits are independent of IP rating. Typical Boray ratings are below 1000 m, with 1% derating per additional 100 m, and ambient -10 °C to +40 °C with rated current derated 1% per °C from 40 °C to 50 °C.
