Cranes and Hoists
Potential-energy loads that brake constantly — where feeding energy back to the grid beats burning it in a resistor bank.
A crane lowering a load is a generator. Conventional drives dump that energy into a braking resistor as heat, which then has to be removed from the panel. AD1000-AFE uses PWM-controlled IGBT rectification for bidirectional control, feeding the load's inertial energy back to the grid with a power factor close to 1.
True four-quadrant operation makes frequent braking a normal duty rather than a thermal limit, and rapid deceleration on large inertial loads is the stated design point for elevators and cranes. The range covers 0.75 kW to 710 kW at 380 V ±15%.
Soft start and overload protection on cranes and rolling mills also extends equipment life, which is why heavy machinery is called out specifically in the manufacturing application set.
