The Challenge

Linear detail built into joinery and structure, where the light has to read as a continuous warm line and the runs are long enough that a low-voltage driver would have to sit somewhere unreachable.

Customer Pain Points

  • Discrete emitters reflect as dots off timber and glass
  • Long continuous runs dim at the far end on low voltage
  • Drivers buried in structure are unserviceable once the deck is down
  • Cut lengths that do not match the joinery module

What Was Specified

Two published figures decide this. The COB CCT series puts 640 emitters per metre under one phosphor line at Ra > 90 and cuts every 25 mm, which follows joinery closely. Where the run is long, the 2835 high-voltage series runs at AC 220 V and publishes 1440 lm and 12 W per metre, so the rectification sits at the supply rather than along the run.

The Result

A continuous line rather than a row of points, with the cut length matched to the detail and no low-voltage driver buried inside the structure.

The manufacturer publishes no IP rating in the parameter tables for these strips, so none is claimed here. For an exposed position that rating has to be confirmed in writing before the product is specified.

Manufacturing

How Work Like This Is Built

Choose the emitter type

Dotting is visible on reflective finishes.

COB at 640 LEDs per metre reads as a line.

Measure the longest run

Low voltage falls off over distance.

220 V on the 2835 series removes the low-voltage run limit.

Match cut length to the detail

Cuts have to land on the joinery module.

25 mm on the COB, 100 mm on the 2835.

Check the rendering

Timber under Ra 80 goes flat.

COB CCT publishes Ra > 90.
