Preparing Artwork for Printed Mats

Send The File You Already Have

Artwork is accepted in JPG, AI or PDF. If you only have a logo, send that and our designer prepares the artwork. There is no art fee either way, and the finished artwork comes back to you for approval before production starts.

Lettering Below 4 cm Will Not Read

Letters have to be at least 4 cm to be readable on a mat. This is a property of the surface, not the printer: the fibre is a pile of individual strands, and detail smaller than the pile can resolve simply blurs. Design captions, straplines and web addresses at or above that size, or leave them off.

Avoid Colours With Little Contrast

Fibres absorb dyes differently from paper, so colours are matched as closely as possible rather than exactly. Two colours that are close on screen may end up closer still on the mat. Where a design depends on a boundary between two similar tones, either widen the contrast or add an outline.

Design For The Outline, Not Just The Face

Tufted rugs can be die cut to any outline, including letter, logo, animal, flower, character and star shapes. If your design has a strong silhouette, cutting to it is often more striking than printing it inside a rectangle.

Know Your Colour Budget

Colour limits vary with the surface. Polyester surfaces take unlimited colour. Nylon surfaces are within 12 colours. Printed bath mats run within 5 colours per design. Check the limit for your chosen construction before you finalise a gradient-heavy design.
