What Makes a Motorcycle Pit Mat Work
A pit mat has three jobs: hold fluid, hold hardware and hold still. Each one comes from a specific part of the construction.
Holding Fluid
The pile locks fluids such as oil, lubricant and water into the pad, and the material mix is built to prevent spilt fuel seeping into the ground underneath. This is why mats of this type are already obligatory in many race service zones: the requirement is containment, not tidiness.
Holding Hardware
A carpeted top does something a smooth ground sheet cannot. It stops a dropped bolt, clip or spring bouncing away, which is the difference between a two-minute pause and losing a part in gravel during an outdoor service.

Holding Still
Backings come in nitrile rubber and TPR. Both are anti-slip. Nitrile resists oil and fuel more aggressively; TPR is lighter and rolls more easily, which matters for a mat that travels between events. The finished border or 20mm rubber edging is what stops the edge curling under a tyre.
Pile Specification
The standard construction is a 100% nylon pile at 3.5mm height. That is enough pile to absorb and to catch hardware while staying low enough that a bike wheels on and off without fighting it.
Sizing The Mat
Popular sizes run 75x200cm, 83x180cm, 90x240cm, 100x180cm and 100x200cm. Custom sizes are available, with one production constraint: the width must be within 200cm. Size for the machine plus the space you actually kneel and work in, not just the wheelbase.

How do I clean a pit mat after a fuel spill?
Sweep or vacuum where it sits for routine cleaning. For a deep clean, mop then wet vacuum, or use a carpet scrubber. The mat dries quickly and goes back into service.
