How To Keep Artificial Trees Looking New
Artificial trees need almost no maintenance, but the little they need decides whether they still look right in year five.
Dust Is The Only Real Enemy
Dust settles on the upper leaf faces and dulls the colour. It is the single reason an older artificial tree starts to look artificial.
Dust every four to six weeks in a normal interior, more often near an entrance or a service corridor.
Method By Leaf Type
Large waxy leaves such as magnolia and big leaf ficus: wipe each leaf face with a dry microfibre cloth.
Fine leaves such as mini ficus and olive: use a soft brush or low pressure air so leaves are not pulled loose.
Flowers such as camellia: a soft brush only. Do not wipe petals.
Position And Light
Keep trees out of direct sunlight through glass where possible. Constant direct sun will eventually fade any pigment.
Keep foliage away from direct hot air discharge from air conditioning.
Reshaping
Canopies compress in the carton. Open the branches outward after unpacking and again after any move, and the tree returns to its display shape.
