Artificial Tree Materials Explained For Specifiers
What the leaves, the trunk and the pot are actually made of, and what each material choice means once the tree is installed.
Leaves And Fronds
Leaves are produced either as moulded polyethylene and PVC components or as silk and polyester fabric leaves, depending on the species.
Moulded leaves carry vein and edge detail and hold their shape. Fabric leaves are softer and are used where the real species has a thin flexible leaf.
Trunks And Branches
Trunks are built on a steel or wire frame, then coated and textured so the surface reads as bark, and finally colour finished by hand.
Larger trunks use fibreglass or a solid plastic core under the textured layer for rigidity at height.
Pots And Bases
Standard pots are weighted so the tree stands square without additional ballast. Black and cream pot finishes are both produced in the range.

Fire Performance
Indoor artificial trees are commonly specified as fire retardant for public buildings such as schools, hospitals and theatres.
Fire performance testing and certification can be arranged through a third party laboratory on request, with the testing cost carried by the buyer.
