How to Brief a Legging Factory

A short brief that answers six questions will get a usable quote. Anything less turns into a week of email.

Name The Style, Not The Look

If you are ordering from a catalogue, quote the item number. If you are sending a reference, send a photo of the whole garment plus a close-up of the waistband and the hem. A photo of a model from the front tells a factory almost nothing about construction.

Send Your Size Chart Or Say You Have None

Both answers are workable, but they lead to different samples. With a chart, the pattern is regraded to it. Without one, the style is made in its published size run, and you are accepting the factory's fit. What causes problems is discovering the chart after the sample is made.

State The Quantity You Can Actually Commit To

Quantities are the fastest way to get a realistic answer. The published minimum here is 300 pcs for a run, and how it splits is negotiable. A buyer who names a real number gets a real quote; a buyer who asks for pricing at every level gets a price list that fits nobody.

Decide Labelling And Packing In The Brief

Own label or plain, OPP bag or retail polybag, barcode or none, carton marks or standard. These are production decisions and they change the quote, so they belong in the first message rather than in a revision.

Say What Would Make You Reject The Order

This is the most useful sentence in any brief. If sheerness in a squat is your test, say so. If the waistband must not roll, say so. If shade must match stock you already hold, send the retained sample. Stating the failure condition up front is how it gets designed out at the sample stage.
