A pearl ring is a drilling job before it is a setting job. The peg has to go into the pearl straight and deep enough to hold without breaking through the nacre on the far side, and there is no second attempt. The workshop designs the setting, sets the diamonds, drills the pearl and seats it, all in the same building, which is the only way that decision stays with the person who can see the pearl.
