Two Different Jobs
Screen printing lays ink on a surface. Embroidery stitches thread into it. That difference decides almost everything else: cost behaviour, durability, how small the detail can be and which products each one suits.
Where Screen Printing Wins
Flat colour artwork on a smooth cotton or canvas panel. Because panels are printed flat before the bag is assembled, a large front design stays square and does not distort across a seam. Cost per piece falls sharply with quantity, because the set-up is per colour and per design, not per bag.

Where Embroidery Wins
Caps, apron chests and bag patches, and anywhere the item will be washed hot and often. Embroidery has a limit on fine detail, small type and thin lines fill in, but it survives commercial laundry in a way that a print on a cap panel does not.
Briefing Artwork
Send vector artwork where you can. For embroidery, say which element must stay legible when the logo is reduced to a cap front, because that is the element the digitiser protects. For screen printing, say which colour is the brand critical one, because that is the colour the strike-off is matched to.
One File Reused
An embroidery design is digitised once. Reusing that file across aprons, caps and patches is what keeps a mixed uniform order consistent, and keeps a reorder six months later identical to the first delivery.

How small can embroidered text be?
Very small text closes up as the stitches crowd. If a strapline has to be readable on a cap front, it is usually better to simplify the lock-up for embroidery rather than shrink the original artwork.
Can I have both on one order?
Yes, and it is common for uniform programmes: embroidered caps and apron chests with screen printed tote bags, all from the same approved artwork.
