Non-Woven Polypropylene
Non-woven fabric is a bonded polypropylene sheet rather than a woven textile. It is light, cheap and takes a laminated full-colour print across the whole body, which is why supermarket and trade fair bags are usually made from it. It does not wash, and a heavy load will eventually tear the handle joint, so it suits campaigns measured in months rather than years.
Cotton
A plain woven cotton tote is the default promotional bag in Europe for a reason. It washes, it folds flat, it takes screen printing cleanly and it reads as reusable rather than disposable. Lighter cotton suits large flat prints and giveaway quantities; heavier cotton starts to hold its shape when the bag is empty.

Canvas
Canvas is simply heavier, more tightly woven cotton. It stands up on its own, it carries books and bottles without the base sagging, and with a contrast trim and a boxed base it looks like a product someone would buy. The trade-off is unit cost and a coarser surface that breaks up very fine print detail.

How To Decide
Work backwards from how long the bag has to live. A one-day event with ten thousand visitors points to non-woven. A loyalty gift a customer is expected to reuse weekly points to cotton. A gift shop item that has to survive being sold points to canvas. Then check the artwork against the material, because a fine illustration on a coarse canvas is the most common mismatch we see.

Does a heavier cotton always mean a better bag?
No. A heavy canvas with a weak handle attachment fails sooner than a mid-weight cotton with a properly bar-tacked handle. Construction at the handle joint matters more than fabric weight alone.
