Printing Process Guide for Displays and POP
How offset printing UV printing die-cutting folding and glue-binding turn a flat sheet into a finished retail display.
Offset Printing
Board items — paper displays, counter cards, show cards and paper bags — are printed on a four-colour press. Offset gives consistent colour across a long run, which is what keeps a hundred counter cards looking like they came from the same order.
UV Printing
Acrylic parts cannot go through an offset press. They are printed directly on a UV printing machine, where the ink cures on the surface. This is why a branded acrylic display has no label to peel at the corner.
Die-Cutting and Creasing
An automatic die-cutting machine cuts the printed sheet to the outline of the structure and creases the fold lines at the same time. The crease is what makes a fold land in the same place on every unit in the run.
Folding
An omnipotence folding paper machine folds the die-cut board into the display body. Machine folding is what keeps the structure square across thousands of pieces, which hand folding cannot do at volume.
Glue-Binding
An automatic glue-binding machine applies and closes the glued seams. A consistent seam is the difference between a display that holds product and one that opens under weight.
Artwork Preparation
- Build artwork against the cutting and folding layout so nothing important sits on a crease
- Keep critical text away from cut edges and fold lines
- Send print-ready files and confirm the current file requirements before finalising them
- Approve a sample before the production run so colour and fit are checked on the real item
