Packing plated jewelry so it arrives without rub marks, and what to agree before the order ships.
Rub marks are a packing problem, not a plating problem
Most plated pieces that arrive looking dull were fine when they were packed and rubbed against each other in transit. Individual bagging is not an upsell on plated jewelry - it is the thing that protects the finish you paid for.
Retail ready or bulk
Decide early. Retail ready means carded, bagged, barcoded and ready for a shelf or a fulfilment centre. Bulk means packed for you to process. Retail ready costs more at the factory and far less at your end.
Anti-tarnish measures
Silver and plated brass benefit from anti-tarnish bags or tabs for long sea freight. Stainless steel does not need them. Specify by material rather than applying one rule to the whole shipment.
What to agree before dispatch
Incoterm, forwarder, packing list format, carton marks and whether the invoice travels with the goods. These are five minutes of email at quotation stage and a fortnight of delay if they are left to the end.
