Slitting is the quiet machine on a paper converting floor and the one that decides what everything else can run. Mills sell paper in the widths that suit the mill, not the widths that suit your honeycomb line, and buying custom widths from a mill means minimum quantities and lead times.
A slitter on your own floor removes that constraint. You buy the mill's standard width, which is the cheapest paper available, and cut it to whatever the downstream machines need that week. It also lets you sell trimmed widths as a product in their own right.
