Machines that convert kraft rolls into protective paper cushioning, producing formed void fill at the point of packing.
Cushion machines crumple and form the paper rather than folding or cutting it, producing a bulky, springy material that fills irregular voids around an object. It is the closest paper equivalent to loose fill, and unlike loose fill it does not scatter across the floor.
Because the material is made at the bench, the volume produced matches the volume needed, which is the economic difference between this and buying cushioning in bulk. Bought material has to be stored, and stored void fill occupies the most expensive kind of warehouse space: empty space.
