Bubble and crinkle paper machines

Embossing between concave and convex rollers gives kraft a bubble texture, which adds loft and a degree of cushioning without adding paper. It suits wrapping where a surface has to be protected from scuffing rather than from impact, and it is the direct paper substitute for plastic bubble wrap.
Crinkle machines shred the web into a fine, springy filler instead. The two outputs answer different problems: bubble paper wraps a surface, crinkle fills a space. Most converters end up running both, which is why the machines are designed to sit on the same floor and take the same input roll.
