When the Client Will Not Share the Wi-Fi: Bluetooth Lighting
Bluetooth 4.0 bulbs pair straight to a phone, which solves the hotel, rental and small-office case where no one is giving out the router password.
The case for direct pairing
Wi-Fi lighting assumes network access. In hotels, rentals and shared offices that assumption fails, and the lighting is then sold as 'smart' but operated from a wall switch.
What the Bluetooth bulb does
Bluetooth 4.0 control, on-off shaking, music and timing functions, dimming from 100 percent down to 1 percent with every level selectable, RGB colour change plus warm and cool white tunable between 2700 and 6500K, CE and RoHS marked.
Single percent dimming is unusual
Most consumer dimming is stepped coarsely. Being able to select 1, 2 and 3 percent separately matters in bedrooms and hospitality, where the lowest levels are the ones actually used.
Where Bluetooth is the wrong answer
Range. Bluetooth is a room-scale technology. A four-zone retail unit or a whole floor belongs on RF or Wi-Fi.
