Stones are bought for the job rather than pulled from a fixed inventory, which is what makes it possible to quote the same design at three price points. The important part is what gets written down: a certified centre stone has a report and an inscription to check it against, a matched row has a lot specification, and natural material like jadeite has photographs of the actual piece with its characteristics marked.
