A boat carries three lighting problems at once: permanent immersion below the waterline, salt spray and wash-down above it, and an interior where the strip is visible and has to look right. They are usually bought from three suppliers and fitted as one installation.

Taking all three from one manufacturer gives a refit yard a single set of documents and a single point of contact when a warranty question arises. That matters more on a refit than on a new build, because the yard rarely has the original supplier to go back to.
