One supplier for a mixed family of machined hardware
A customer consolidated turned parts, studs, sleeves and mating pairs with one supplier so the fits had a single owner.
The family included turned components, small studs and sleeves, and shaft and bushing pairs that only prove themselves assembled. Split across suppliers, each part met its drawing and the assemblies still bound.
Consolidating them here meant the mating pairs could be machined and checked together rather than shipped to drawing and hoped for. Where a fit was marginal, the correction was made once, on our side, instead of being negotiated between two vendors.
The customer's gain was not a lower piece price. It was the end of the argument about whose tolerance was at fault, which was costing more time than the parts were worth.
