Ribbon and Trim Colour Matching
Most ribbon complaints are colour complaints. This is the sequence used to keep one colour consistent across ribbon, tape and printed trims.
Where Orders Break and How the Stage Is Handled
Each stage lists the failure it exists to prevent and the practical answer to it.
- Reference
Problem. Colour described in words means a different thing to each party.
How it is handled. Work from a live sample you post or a Pantone reference number.
- Fibre
Problem. The same dye reads differently on polyester, cotton and nylon.
How it is handled. The reference is matched separately on each fibre you are ordering.
- Lab sample
Problem. Bulk dyeing starts on an unconfirmed shade.
How it is handled. A sample is sent and confirmed before the dye lot.
- Lot control
Problem. Rolls from two lots sit next to each other on the floor.
How it is handled. Orders are kept within a lot where the quantity allows, and lots are identified.
- Print
Problem. A printed logo shifts the perceived colour of the ribbon.
How it is handled. Printed and heat transfer logos are proofed on the actual ribbon.
- Repeat
Problem. The reorder does not match the first order.
How it is handled. The approved sample is retained as the standard for repeats.
