Physically There Is No Difference Worth Designing Around

Lab grown diamond is diamond: same hardness, same refractive index, same behaviour under a torch and under a setter's tools. A setting drawn for a natural stone does not need changing for a lab grown one of the same measurements. The Price Gap Is The Whole Argument

At the same measurements and grades, lab grown sits far below natural, and that gap has widened over time rather than closed. For a buyer, that means either a much larger stone at the same budget or the same stone at a much lower price. For a retailer, it means a second price tier on an identical design, which is why so many ranges now carry both.

Resale Is Where They Separate

Natural diamonds have an established secondary market. Lab grown, so far, largely does not, and lab grown prices have fallen as production has scaled. If a customer is thinking about the piece as an asset, that is the conversation to have before the order, not after.

Disclosure Is Not Optional

Lab grown stones above melee size are normally laser inscribed as such, and they must be sold as lab grown. Any supplier who is vague about this is a supplier to leave. State it on your own listings too; a customer who discovers it later will not remember that the price told them.

What This Means When You Enquire

Say which you want at enquiry stage rather than after a quotation. It changes the stone cost by a multiple, and on a piece like a 4.65 ct pave pendant or a full eternity band that is most of the invoice.
