Highly polished magnesium plate
Uncoated magnesium plate with a high polish, used for CNC engraving as well as for workshops coating their own resist.
Magnesium machines well, which is why the same plate serves CNC engraving as well as etching. It cuts cleanly, loads the tool less than harder metals and produces an edge that needs little finishing, so a workshop can move between the two processes with one material in stock.
A high polish is not cosmetic on an uncoated plate. It is the surface the resist has to wet evenly, and any drag mark or scratch left by rolling shows up later as a defect in the etched image, at which point the plate is scrap rather than rework.
