Coated magnesium etching plate
Presensitised magnesium plate for fast, clean etching where the detail is finer than zinc will hold.
Magnesium etches faster than zinc and holds a finer line, which is why it is the plate for hot foil stamping dies with small type, fine rules and detailed logos. The speed also shortens the time the etchant has to work sideways under the resist.
That sideways attack is undercut, and it is the reason two plates etched to the same depth can give completely different results. Controlling it is what the additive oil in our range is for, and it is why plate and chemistry are specified together rather than separately.
Magnesium is also lighter than zinc, which matters on a large-format die that an operator has to lift into a press several times a day. Over a shift that difference is felt, and it is one of the reasons a workshop that moves to magnesium tends to stay there.
