Using a water tank truck for dust control on haul roads
Dust suppression is a spray pattern and cycle time problem, not a tank volume problem, and specifying it by volume alone produces the wrong truck.
On a haul road the useful measure is how much road a truck can keep damp between passes, which depends on the spray width, the pump output and the cycle time back to the fill point. A large tank on a slow pump covers less road than a smaller tank on a fast one.
Nozzle configuration decides the spray pattern: rear spreaders wet behind the truck, side sprays cover the shoulders, and a front spray wets ahead of the wheels on a very dusty surface. Which combination you need depends on the road width and the traffic.
Tank material also matters more than it appears. A mild steel tank is fine for dust suppression water and wrong for anything intended to be potable, and the decision is difficult to reverse once the truck is built.
