Truck with crane testing before delivery
A crane that has never been operated before shipment is a risk the buyer carries alone at the destination, so it is operated before it leaves.
A truck-mounted crane has hydraulics, outriggers, controls and a boom that all have to work together. Any of them can be assembled correctly and still not function, and finding that out at the destination means a commissioning problem thousands of kilometres from the people who built it.
The crane was set up, the outriggers deployed and the boom operated through its range before the vehicle was released for shipping. It is a short test and it moves the risk from the buyer back to the builder, which is where it belongs.
