PCM steel compared with common PPGI
Both are pre-painted coil, but they are specified for different service lives and different forming demands.
Common PPGI is a general construction product: pre-painted galvanised coil aimed at roofing, cladding and light structures where appearance requirements are modest and forming is simple.
PCM steel for appliance panels is specified much more tightly, because the panel will be deep drawn or sharply folded, will sit in a domestic interior where surface defects are visible at close range, and will be judged by the end consumer rather than by an installer.
Buying PPGI for an appliance panel is the most common substitution error in this category. It usually survives the first forming trial and fails at the bend radius in production, by which time the tooling is committed.
